As a car driver who is frustrated with congestion, I strongly oppose Bill 60's proposed ban on reducing vehicle lanes. Extensive research and government expertise demonstrate that this would not achieve its stated goal of reducing congestion, and would add “red tape” and undermine local decision-making.
Adding traffic lanes and removing options for safe cycling shifts more people into cars, which will only worsen traffic. Government experts have also confirmed that bike lanes do not cause congestion. This bill will make our streets more dangerous for everyone from drivers to cyclists and pedestrians by hindering the development or maintenance of safe infrastructure.
I urge the Province to remove these provisions. We need solutions that genuinely reduce congestion and improve safety - like providing public transit that is more attractive than driving - not those that exacerbate existing problems.
