Ontario has a responsibility and an opportunity to protect the birds and ecosystems that make this province so ecologically rich. I urge the provincial government to:
1. Restore meaningful habitat protections that recognize the full habitat needs of birds, including breeding grounds, migratory stopovers, and overwintering habitat.
2. Reinstate provincial protections for the 35 at-risk bird species removed under this legislation.
3. Invest significantly in programs and partnerships that support habitat conservation, species recovery, Indigenous-led stewardship, and science-based monitoring.
Birds are vital indicators of environmental health. When bird populations decline, it signals deeper systemic issues that ultimately threaten all of us. We have a responsibility to ensure that Ontario remains a place where diverse species and future generations can thrive.
Protecting at-risk birds matters to me, and I urge the Ontario government to step up and take meaningful, science-based action to support their recovery.
