Habitat protections for all species need to be expanded well beyond the dwelling place and immediate surroundings. Many species have territories they need to live within to get food, find mates etc.

I strongly protest against the Removal of all provincial protections for 35 birds that are on the federal species at risk list or assessed as special concern.

Ontario has a responsibility to help protect and recover at-risk birds. The province is indicating that it will continue to take conservation action through provincial status assessments of birds, and by providing guidance for activities that may impact birds and their habitats. However, protection and recovery will rely on voluntary actions and federal laws.

Protecting at-risk birds matters to me. I Urge the province to do more by making significant investments in programs to protect and recover Ontario’s birds and their habitats. I urge the Ontario government to step up and take responsibility for the recovery of at-risk birds.

I will never ever vote for the conservative government again for passing Bill 5 unless they make serious amendments and programs to provide space and habitat for at risk birds and at risk environmental landscapes.
