My comments with respect on the proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) 2007
I very strongly oppose any changes to the ESA at this time.
It has become overwhelming clear that any changes are coming ,not out of concern for our vanishing wildlife and habitats, but to accommodate housing and mining activities in the province.
The public has overwhelmingly supported protections contained in the ESA 2007 and further weakening represented in the SCA are seen as tipping the scales against our natural world in favour of the development community and corporate interests.
This government, not only on this file, but in their term of office has very deliberately eroded the public’s trust by systematically denying the right to comment on environmental concerns, municipal planning issues and flagrant use of the MZO.
As a long standing taxpayer in Ontario I have watched this government step by step destroy the legacy of Conservative progressive values to only represent the wealthy corporate agenda.
As a long standing taxpayer in Ontario I have been deeply saddened by the lack of transparency in decision making and the low priority for scientific analysis on any changes to the ESA 2007.
We can do much better than revert to an outdated model of sacrificing our natural world and its systems of protection for species at risk, water, air quality and farmland for profit.
The prevailing paradigm of the Conservatives in Ontario today is a party of the wealthy and for the wealthy not for the rest of us.
Respectfully,
Eugenia Venchiarutti
