The newly proposed act threatens to undo progress made under Ontario’s biodiversity strategy and further endangers already vulnerable species. It removes recovery strategies, hands full responsibility for migratory birds over to the federal government, and lets developers merely register instead of following sustainable practices. Now more than ever, the Ontario government must restore the Endangered Species Act to its original purpose, rather than treating it as bureaucratic red tape.
