Hello,
Regarding ERO 025-0909, I have concerns around the registration regulations of the Species Conservation Act. Subsection 16 of the Species Conservation Act reads like the only action necessary to get a "go ahead" is to receive confirmation that a registration has been submitted. This could be done with an automated email which is irresponsible and detrimental to the environment and the species being "conserved" with this Act.
How many people are going to be dedicated to reviewing the registrations? Are they going to be knowledgeable or have a background in species conservation and related environmental fields?
What kind of work is going into double checking the registrations and who is responsible for doing that double-checking?
I do not think the kind of oversight outlined within the Species Conservation Act is appropriate. Submitting a registration and receiving confirmation is not enough. I worry about the impact this would have on animals and the environment. Particularly long-term. This does not seem to maintain strong environmental safeguards.
Thank you
