This proposal is an absolute disgrace. It ignores existing laws and policies that are intended to provide good guidance for municipal growth and development. There are numerous reasons why these laws and policies were put into place. This government is now saying all those laws are limiting development. And maybe they are, because should be limits on development. Development decisions need to be made with consideration for a broader geographic, socio-economic and ecological context. Municipal decisions affect large regions of this province. So we need clear rules about how these decisions get made. This proposal will let municipalities make decisions in a vacuum, and without regard for existing laws. This is not in the best interest of Ontario. This is not a good proposal for the people. It would be better for this government to leave things as they are.
