Species that are listed as special concern still deserve protection. Removing the 64 species classified by COSSARO as special concern and the 42 aquatic species (fish and mussels) and migratory bird species listed as extirpated, endangered or threatened under the federal Species at Risk Act from the Species at Risk in Ontario List does not adequately protect species that provide vital ecosystem services to Ontarians. Understanding that infrastructure and development are important, they cannot come at the cost of species that we share the land with in Ontario.
