Species at risk federally need to be protected at the provincial level as well. Removing species from the current species at risk act because they are protected under the federal law does not make sure that habitats for those still endangered species protected. The point of having overlap between acts federally and provincially is to ensure coverage of the species in multiple ways. Ensuring the protection of the species and their habitat both federally and provincially. Without the provincial protection of these species and their habitats, what will be left of them?
We cannot overturn the species at risk act in favour of economic gain.
