This act endangers 106 species of animals, setting a precedent for the future that any species vulnerable to the effects of development can be neglected. This amendment would compromise our biodiversity. Take Sydenham River for example. The blackstripe topminnow is a special concern species due to habitat degradation in this region in South Ontario, and if we cannot list them as a species for protection under the ESA or SCA, developers will pay no heed to this.
I believe that this decision prioritizes development that the province needs, but at the cost of the very species that have shaped its identity.
