Allowing development in those areas of the province that (eg. Oak Ridges Morraine) will have a negative impact on ground water resources that support our urban areas and natural spaces. Development will increase storm run-off thereby reducing the water filtering into ground water. Development will also add to pollution of the ground water by increasing the surface contamination by chemicals such as oil and solvents.
If development is allowed to proceed, those free natural processes that provide us with clean water will have to be replaced with expensive to build and operate technology based solutions.
We cannot continue to sacrifice our natural processes for short term gains supporting a greed based economy. Our current development model, i.e. continued sprawl across the countryside, is unsustainable and the environmental and economic costs will have to be borne by future generations.
