I am writing to express my deep concern about the government’s decision to weaken Ontario’s species protection laws and remove species from the endangered species list. These actions undermine decades of progress in conserving our province’s unique ecosystems and put countless plants and animals at risk of extinction.
Healthy ecosystems are not only vital for wildlife, they also support clean water, resilient forests, sustainable agriculture, and the overall well-being of Ontarians. Decisions about which species need protection must be based on independent, science-based assessments, not political or economic considerations.
I urge your government to restore strong, science-driven protections for at-risk species and to repeal Bill 5, which has made it easier for industry to bypass environmental safeguards. Ontario’s natural heritage belongs to everyone, and we have a shared responsibility to preserve it for future generations.
Please take this opportunity to reaffirm Ontario’s leadership in conservation by protecting biodiversity and respecting scientific expertise.
