I think this proposal should be completely abandoned. Any changes to the protection of threatened and endangered species act that do not bolster protections are a grave threat to biodiversity and the habitability of Toronto. Studies clearly demonstrate that even small changes to ecosystems can have catastrophic, cascading effects that are hard to predict and almost impossible to control once the process is unleashed. We know that we are experiencing unprecedented decline in insect populations and biodiversity. Already the changes that are underway have the potential to have horrible repercussions. We must act now to protect the biodiversity and fragile, indigenous ecosystems that remain.
