I am writing to strongly oppose the proposed legislative and regulatory amendments to the Species Conservation Act, 2025. These changes risk undermining Ontario’s long-standing commitment to protecting wildlife, biodiversity, and the delicate ecosystems that sustain us all.
Ontario is not the United States — we are Canadians who deeply value and respect our natural heritage. Our province has always been a leader in conservation and environmental stewardship. Weakening protections for endangered species would not only threaten vulnerable wildlife but also damage Ontario’s international reputation as a responsible and forward-thinking province.
Our endangered species need stronger protection, not less. Conservation is not a political issue — it’s a moral responsibility to future generations. I urge the government to reconsider these amendments and instead strengthen the laws that preserve the beauty, diversity, and balance of Ontario’s natural environment.
