I 100% do not support this bill. Bike lanes encourage people to bike to work, school, activities, errands, etc. They encourage bike courriers. These ways of moving around decrease pollution. As you note in the summary of the bill - traffic and congestion are problems that increase increase pollution. Encouraging more vehicles on the road adds to pollution. Encouraging more bike lanes and pedestrian space and transit space discourages drivers which indirectly increases transit riders and active commuters. Those changes decrease pollution.
Active commuting - like with pedestrian avenues and bike lanes, is physical activity built into a person's day. Physical activity increase physical and mental health. Physical activity decreases the risk of a whole host of health problems. Fewer health problems = decreased health care cost needs. Fewer health problems = people able to work, stay at work, or back to work. That = people making more money which means they can spend more money and that improves Ontario's economy.
Poor people can't afford and car or the gas to drive it everyday. They also can't always afford to.live where the.jobs are. Or the schools. That is especially true in urban areas. So this is also a bill that creates a war or low income people.
The bill is illogical.
I encourage the premier and his ministers to try active transportation for one month and see how you feel. Please choose a non-snowstorm month.
