While I understand the need for consolidating the conservation authorities in Southern Ontario, I feel merging the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority with ones in Southern Ontario is a mistake. The LRCA is 1,000km away and the geography and needs of the region are not the same as down south. Additionally, the issues with permitting that occur with some conservation authorities is not applicable to the LRCA. I do not know anyone who I've spoken to about this that supports the consolidation. Simply put, LRCA is too far away from any other conservation authority to be merged successfully. The geographical differences and needs of the area are too great to be managed by anyone other than locals.
