As a resident of Windsor & Essex County, I do not support this proposal.
Local conservation authorities play an essential role in protecting our communities from flooding and other natural hazards, and their effectiveness depends on local knowledge, local relationships, and local decision-making. Consolidating them into large regional bodies risks weakening this connection and reducing responsiveness to the specific needs of our watershed.
I am concerned that consolidation will lead to:
Loss of local expertise
Reduced accountability to municipalities and residents
Less transparency in budgeting
Disruption of ongoing projects and community partnerships
Greater distance between conservation staff and the communities they serve
Rather than restructuring, I believe the province should support conservation authorities by strengthening their resources and capacity while keeping their governance local.
Thank you for considering this feedback.
