This is a drastic over reach by the provincial government. Decisions about bike lane infrastructure should be made by cities, as they have the biggest impact on the people nearby. There is also a mountain of evidence that giving people more options for how to commute (bike lanes, public transit, etc) lowers travel times for everyone. If the government wants to reduce gridlock, they should be promoting more bike lane development instead of trying to stifle them.
