This bill would allow the government to explicitly prioritize vehicular traffic over the safety of traffic, which will make roads more dangerous, for no proven benefit -- studies have shown the bike lanes do not increase traffic congestion. As a cyclist and pedestrian, bike lanes and safe streets are extremely important to me. I shouldn't need to risk my life to get from point A to point B in my city.
This strips cities of decision-making power, which can lead to decisions that don't align with local residents' needs or best interests. It would be a step backward in public and environmental health, at a time when it's critical to be supporting infrastructure that encourages environmentally-friendly transportation options.
I strongly oppose Bill 60.
