One of the great things about the current government is that it is actively trying to promote change that helps people. Strangely this bill seems to target a subgroup of people who are making the healthy decision to remove themselves from the road as a car/automobile, and help decongest traffic by using an alternative mode of transportation. Restricting the growth of bike lanes will do little to help traffic because more cars will just fill in the spaces. But giving space to alternative vehicles like bikes will help make more room on the existing roads for those who have to drive. Please don't take away our opportunities to improve our cycling infrastructure, especially at a challenging economic time when cycling is one of the best ways to save money!
(Also see research linked below about induced demand and the effect of adding car lanes).
