The Town of Oakville seeks clarity on whether the prohibition applies to other forms of active transportation infrastructure, such as multi-use paths and trails, which may similarly require lane reallocation or adjustments to the roadway. In addition, it is unclear whether the prohibition applies to turning lanes such as two-way centre-turn lanes. The lack of clarity in the legislation raises concerns about the potential unintended consequences for projects that support walking, cycling, and other non-motorized modes of travel. These facilities are essential to Oakville’s transportation network and broader goals for growth. It is recommended that the Province further clarify the proposed prohibitions to minimize ambiguity and prevent delays in municipal infrastructure program delivery.
