This amendment makes Peel Region the first regional government to transfer responsibility of water and wastewater to the lower tier governments. Being a part of Halton Region, the Town has an interest in the timelines for this change to take effect and how the Province will support the municipalities in Peel Region with the transition.
In addition, the Town of Oakville requests collaborative consultation with the affected municipalities to understand the impacts of this amendment and a thorough review of how this change in governance affects the delivery of the services prior to further legislative changes in other regions.
