I am a single parent and permanent resident with very limited support in Ontario. My landlord has been pressuring me to leave, and with the current housing crisis, losing my home would put me and my child at real risk of homelessness.
Bill 60 does not address the two biggest issues tenants face: unlawful or bad-faith eviction tactics and the severe lack of affordable housing. Right now, many families cannot find anywhere they can afford, and the Landlord and Tenant Board delays make it easy for landlords to push tenants out before they can defend themselves.
I am asking the government to strengthen Bill 60 by:
• Cracking down on illegal and bad-faith evictions
• Enforcing meaningful penalties for landlord harassment or pressure
• Improving LTB timelines so vulnerable tenants aren’t left unprotected
• Prioritizing the creation and protection of deeply affordable housing
Families like mine need stability and security. Bill 60 should protect tenants, not make it easier to lose the only housing we can afford.
