We must stop building the way we always have and creating more of the problems that plague our municipalities and highways. Yes, there is red tape that IS a problem (ex. zoning bylaws making multi-unit dwellings more difficult to build, not allowing mixed use developments, etc.), but to remove environmental checks and balance and active PREVENT gold standards of sustainable and usable urban development that WILL ACTUALLY reduce traffic, congestion, pollution and delays (ie. cycling/multi-use paths) is absurd.
We need to stop Doug Ford from pushing through legislation that will help him and his friends to the detriment of the general public (including him and his friends in every aspect but financially!). We must start following proven methods to build better communities that could actually thrive, instead of being choked by traffic between trips from our suburban housing islands to our big box commercial islands via the least efficient and most harmful means of transportation available. Build smarter, build connected, build safer, build beautiful, build happier; all of those can be built fast too, if you do it right. Right now, we’ll be building faster in a way that will further fragment and ruin our communities and leave us stuck in traffic with no viable alternative means of getting around.
