It's frustrating that this bill is an Ontario proposition, when it's clearly a Toronto issue it's targeting. As a Toronto resident of more than 25 years, I disagree with the presumption that getting "cars" moving is the way to make a city more efficient.

Living in Toronto and working on King St., I've seen first hand how much better transit moves to get people to work than it did when cars were congesting that street. I also live in the Junction neighbourhood where there is NO dedicated bus lane or bike lane and the congestion of cars is unbelievable. Our bus route (the 40) takes at least 5-10 more minutes than it did during covid to get to the junction because of right-turning cars heading up Keele St.

I don't see how bike lanes are the cause of congestion, and I don't see how more cars are the solution for congestion. I also think it's disingenuous to call slow traffic a pollution issue. You're not trying to solve pollution by putting more cars in the road. Transit and bikes solve the pollution problem, not more cars.

I know that Toronto is traditionally a car-friendly city. I know that many people lived here when driving was the default. I know that many people need to use their car for work. But the consequences of our increased population is that hard decisions have to be made, especially in light of climate change. And those decisions should not be to pretend it's still the 70s. Less card, more transit and bicycles, please.
