I once was hit by a car while exiting the streetcar. It was not pleasant, but I was unharmed.
We need more safer transit options for people, especially those not riding in vehicles that have the potential to kill others. This is not some political "war on car", rather, an acknowledgement that heavy vehicles are more dangerous than a bicycle, and people riding bikes or just being pedestrians deserve more safety.
Bike lanes act as buffer zones between drivers and pedestrians, so it's a win for everyone. Premier Ford has experienced how scary it is to bike without a bike lane first hand, so his opposition to bike lanes make no sense.
Also, given the climate crisis, more of us want to avoid driving cars, so as a government — make other options better, not worse!
