Riding my bike to get around has been monumental in allowing me to access services and opportunities that I would have otherwise been unable to do or would have been made extremely difficult. As someone who cannot afford a car, and cannot always take a bus, using a bike has put me on a more even ground with others who do have that access to transportation and therefore access to more job or services opportunities. The only issues I have usually run into in regard to bike lanes have been when they are not built at all or built poorly next to high speed or crowded traffic, putting me and others at a great risk of injury or death. I think that including more bike centred infrastructure would not only help de-crowd high traffic areas by making alternative modes of transportation more accessible, but it would also allow more opportunity to lower income people/people who cannot afford cars and improve overall quality of life.
