I think this is an absolutely ridiculous proposition. I very adamantly do not support it. I understand the reasoning for this amalgamation but this is not the way to achieve faster housing builds. Conservation authorities do not control the speed of housing - they are a guard for dangerous development, like building on a floodplain or an area of high erosion. By eliminating regional specific conservation authorities, you risk losing regional specific information and engaged people who are looking out for these risks. Amalgamating conservation authorities is not a science-based move and will prove deleterious for whatever is even remaining of Ontario’s nature. I am very disappointed in this government’s habit of selling Ontario nature for a price. It does not feel like the government has the best interests of its citizens in mind.
