I am against the proposed consolidation of Ontario’s conservation authorities from 36 local to 7 regional authorities. I believe that the existing local conservation authorities are local experts who know their communities and natural areas best. I believe that the move to consolidate conservation authorities is largely a ploy to weaken protection of our precious natural areas and pave the way for more development in sensitive areas. Based on many actions taken by the Ford Conservatives in recent years (attempts to sell off parts of the Green Belt in spite of promises not to, the building of highways through rich farmland (highway 413) and the destruction of Ontario Place in favour of private enterprise) I do not trust the current provincial government to protect Ontario’s natural areas. Please do not proceed with this initiative. Stop trying to fix something that is not broken!
