The Kettle Creek Conservation Authority, is vital to the environment of our LOCAL community.Their work is shaped by the needs of our watershed community - our priorities, our landscapes, our local environment. How can a proposed conservation authority covering over 17,000 square kilometres from Windsor to Shelburne possibly be able to care for and listen to the needs of individual environmental zones, landscapes and animals. This proposal diminishes the differences and needs of our separate environments and communities.
The Province of Ontario is proposing to consolidate Kettle Creek Conservation Authority into a Lake Erie Regional Conservation Authority, grouping eight Conservation Authorities across 81 municipalities. The lack of specific regional care and coverage would be staggering. Local conversation authorizes matter - they listen, understand and care about our community and as a citizen of one of these communities I care about LOCAL authorities.
The current Kettle Creek watershed is 520 square kilometres; the proposed Lake Erie Region is 17,133 square kilometres in size. This is a major shift in how watershed management and local services will be delivered. The Ontario government is minimizing its environmental efforts by maximizing the coverage of a single conservation authority. Please reconsider this short sighted idea and think of our communities, our needs and the care of our environments for future generations.
