This government has already set the province back environmentally in a thousand different ways. Don’t make another mistake for the sake of perceived efficiency.
I live in Thunder Bay and do not support the changes proposed for conservation areas. Combining watershed and land management management with an area 1500km from us is absurd and no one involved actually thinks this will result in better or more efficient management for this region. We will never have anyone on site in charge as it will always be managed from a head office in southern Ontario and never be more than an afterthought.
We are currently well served by the Lakehead Regional Conservation Authority. They do an excellent job currently of community engagement, flood mapping, watershed management, invasive species management and management of recreation areas. I do not want my drinking water managed from afar. Lake Superior is perhaps the worlds most valuable source of fresh water. We shouldn’t leave that to people days away who don’t know and love this area.
The changes this government has made to Ontario Parks makes no sense for the northwest and yet it continues. Don’t do the same for the conservation areas.
If you want to get rid of some bureaucracy please start with getting rid of the catholic school system.
Thank you.
