I do not support the governments proposed plan for merging conservation authorities.
I strongly support the Hamilton Conservation Authority's comments on why they disagree with the plan. Local decision-making and oversight is crucial to healthy conservation authorities.
I am also aware of rural conservation authority concerns, such as the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority, which already has very few personnel to cover a huge geographic area and coastlines. The government has provided no evidence and there likely is no evidence to support mergers.
The government could be much more useful by setting standards that all conservation authorities must abide by, monitoring compliance, providing stable funding, providing centralized digital resources where practical, and actually working with provincial conservation authorities on their needs.
thank- you for considering,
Dr Holbrook
