Bill 68 will weaken local decision-making, funding, and hands-on protection of our watersheds. Right now, NPCA would be folded into a huge Western Lake Ontario authority instead of staying focused on our local needs.
Moving from 36 authorities to just seven is such a drastic shift. Local environmental expertise in each individual authority is essential. A merger to seven, could create a larger, more distant bureaucracy that’s less responsive to local municipalities, developers and farmers. These are the people that need quick service and appreciate having a local municipal official or a local, trusted member of staff they can call directly.
