I write to express great concern, and disagreement with the approach the government is taking to this amalgamation. The largest concern is the very short timeline for consultation. Conservation Authorities have decades of experience and learning in action, they are capable of harmonizing perspectives. They need time and space to meaningfully express their concerns with the current approach of mass amalgamation.
The implications of a poorly done amalgamation are immense - flood management will suffer, insurance will explode, properties people have will no longer have market value (become uninsurable). Conservation authorities provide immense services to communities, economy and business. A speedy overhaul of their governance is not a solution that will benefit the people or economy in the long run.
