ERO #025-1257:
I agree with HCA’s submission to the ERO. I am concerned about losing local decision-making and I support keeping conservation decisions rooted in our community.” I too often see government centralization as a method for grabbing control of local entities that have a deeper understanding of local issues. That’s why decisions about how our lands are used and cared for need to remain grounded in local priorities.
It is my observation that Conservation authorities have been established on watershed boundaries and therefore should not be relegated to larger administrative regions. I see nothing in the government proposal that is not already in place at the local level or that could be developed through each local Conservation authority.
Currently I have seen the present government take actions that I believe to be too "far reaching" and in doing so have lost the trust of most citizens in this area of the province. I would hate to think this was just one more means for grabbing more control.
