This would seem to be a highly inadvisable idea. There are massive differences between the conservation areas in different regions and municipalities across Ontario - and replacing the current 36 authorities with only seven would likely have significant negative repercussions, given that the amalgamated authorities could not possibly have the same familiarity with the local landscape/conditions/environment. We are facing an unprecedented economic attack on Ontario and Canada from the Trump government, which may well result in environmental degradation (as we will have less provincial revenue in future) - if Premier Ford wants to resist Trump as much as possible, why would he weaken his own province in this way? We need to preserve local decision-making and accountability related to local conservation protections.
