I am concerned that this proposal is meant to place lower consideration on the local concerns surrounding permitting, and favours the developers.
It’s been clear from the beginning that this government is closely aligned with developers and after the Greenbelt scandal, this government has lost the trust of Ontarians when it comes to development and conservation.
I’m not saying there aren’t areas that can be addressed for greater environmental protection and efficiency in providing such, but consolidating the Conservation Authorities would weaken the number of resources dedicated to local concerns surrounding permitting. I’m also concerned that this government would install its own development-biased people in positions of authority, further weakening advocacy for the land and local concerns of the people that will live here in future generations.
