I oppose the proposal to amalgamate conservation authorities. The Hamilton conservation authority is an effective local conservation authority with strong connections to the local community and expertise in the local environment. It is accountable to the local community, which provides more of its funding than the province does. Amalgamation will be expensive and disruptive and it is unnecessary. It will remove local accountability and create another layer of bureaucracy further removed from its stakeholders.
