I live in Belleville Ontario. I strongly oppose amalgomation of conservation areas. Our local conservation area staff( (Quinte Conservation) know our watershed intimately and can respond to local needs promptly. They live here and are sensitive to local needs and priorities. This knowledge will be lost in a vastly expanded region.
Amalgomation of conservation areas is a further loss of local autonomy and voice in our province. This will lead to a further loss of democratic voice and municipal control over matters very important to our area. Our local municipalities have invested heavily in supporting the infrastructure that protects our waterways. We should be able to continue this local control and investment.
Amalgamation is a very short-sighted idea.
