I am writing to oppose the consolidation of Ontario's regional conservation authorities. Ontario is a vast province made up of diverse ecosystems from Hudson Bay tundra in the north to what's left of the decimated carolinian forests in the south. Our watersheds are extremely diverse and unique, requiring specialized knowledge to properly govern and protect. It is completely illogical to think consolidating authorities would improve conservation efforts. But of course, logic is irrelevant here. The only reason this government is proposing this amalgamation is to further weaken conservation authorities, ensuring nothing gets in the way of the bulldozers. Yet another proposal that serves the financial goals of industry versus the long term needs of the people.
