The old adage is” if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”. My feeling is that bigger is not always better as local input is diluted when groups are amalgamated. This has been exceptionally illustrated with the amalgamation of school boards so that those of us in rural areas have had our interests shuffled aside in favour of larger cities to our detriment. I cannot see how the amalgamation of conservation areas would be beneficial especially those of us living in rural areas. The Upper Thames Conservation Authority has done an excellent job in this area and we have personally benefited from their tree program as well as the use of both Wildwood and Fanshawe. It is my feeling that the push for this amalgamation is not to benefit us but to instead enable developers to take more of the existing green space which is to the detriment of future generations. If more housing land is required, make better use of brownfield areas with increased density and smaller houses.
