I am strongly against this proposal to consolidate Ontario’s conservation authorities. This move will not improve conservation authorities but rather take the power away from communities and instead concentrate it in the hands of a select few who will be far away from the impacts of their decisions. We need the expertise and understanding of those actually on the ground in these communities to be able to ensure the continued safe operation of our conservation authorities. As such my feedback is that this proposal should be withdrawn and the boundaries and jurisdiction of the existing 36 conservation authorities should stay as they are.
