The Ontario Provincial Government proposes in Bill 68 to reduce the number of conservation authorities in Ontario to 37 conservation authorities. This reduction of conservation authorities is highly detrimental to the environment and to the population of Ontario because:
- currently the generation of local knowledge with respect to the understanding and recognition of watersheds’ needs is locally-generated and well managed. Reducing the management of watersheds’ needs to 37 conservation authorities will create dangerous conditions in the watershed.
- locally-managed watersheds can work more successfully with First Nation
communities in each watershed. -This ability to find common ground with First Nations is
vital.
