I am writing you to request that you remove Schedule 10 from Bill 66. Schedule 10 allows municipalities to override provisions in the Greenbelt Act, Clean Water Act, Lake Simcoe Act, Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act and Great Lakes Protection Act.
These provisions protect both the public and the private interests from disaster caused by environmental collapse. It is likely environmental collapse is imminent if we ignore our responsibility to protect sensitive areas from development. We have proof that natural disasters are worsened by development in environmentally sensitive areas. Just look to municipalities across the world that have experienced natural disaster caused by climate change. The underlying story is always that they have neglected to provide for the watershed resulting in a multitude of complications. Scientific evidence makes it clear that overriding protections will result in insurmountable costs to tax payers and cancel any financial gains made by development.
Schedule 10 is bad for the people and bad for the future of Ontario.
