I do not agree with the proposal and provisions layed out in Schedule 10 of the proposed Bill 66, which allows municipalities to override provisions in the Greenbelt Act, Clean Water Act, Lake Simcoe Act, Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation Act,
Great Lakes Protection Act and any or all Provincial policies under the Planning Act. The reason for my opposition is based on the fact that these pieces of legislation and policies are fundamentally important for the future health of our environment and our communities and to ensure the protection of biodiversity for future generations. Development which does not consider the protection of these natural heritage features is unsustainable and destructive to the health of our environment. These pieces of legislation and associated policies took years to develop with public review and acceptance. The intrinsic values associated with these natural heritage features far outweigh any proposal for economic development which will lead to increased loss of important wetlands, loss of Species at Risk, impacts to source water areas and loss of carbon sequestration through tree clearing. This proposal is completely unacceptable for the reasons stated above and Schedule 10 of this bill must be removed. I am a long term resident of Ontario and this proposal does not align with any of the values or interests of the people of Ontario.
