I'm very concerned how this Act will affect built heritage in our province. The idea of circumventing established Bylaws that are in place in protect our treasured built heritage from the prospective developers whose number 1 interest is generating profits for their customers/shareholders is extremely dangerous to the social identity of our communities, and the irreplaceable living history of our province. Again, the idea of potentially sacrificing these protected properties for the pockets of big-business will enrage the local tax-payer if the established rules are not followed. Why should a tax-paying citizen be expected to abide by the language of the Heritage Act if their property is designated, but a prospective developer, or corporation be allowed to bypass the same rules.
The risk to heritage is worrying to me and my family.
