The Greenbelt provides essential ecosystem service that once lost, will not easily be replaced. This bill will decimate protections for services that support the lives and livelihoods of Ontarians. This is a move exactly in the wrong direction at exactly the wrong time -- it provides comfort to the wealthy few at the expense of the health, wellbeing, and economic security of citizens. If the government truly cares about competitiveness, it should stop trying to undercut the growth of the green economy, alternative energy, etc. and protect the ecosystem services that support food security and mitigation of climate change. I am a professor of environmental science and I oppose this legislation in the strongest terms.
