The Green Belt and the Green Belt Act must be protected. Thus any mention of altering the Green Belt Act, or allowing individual municipalities to bypass it, must be removed from Bill 66. The Green Belt Act protects farmlands, the Oak Ridges Morraine and other ecologically sensitive areas like waterways, as well as our wildlife and vegetation. Individual interests at the municipal level must not be allowed to overrun the larger benefit provided to the people of Ontario as a whole by the Green Belt Act and the Clean Water Act etc. Municipalities have been working to create smart development plans that create more density rather than more sprawl: Bill 66 - and especially Schedule 10 - will take us back 50 years in terms of planning and ecological awareness! Please reconsider this legislation, and protect the Green Belt for this and future generations. Thank-you.
