I am very concerned about 2 aspects of the proposed Bill 66 - first, the removal of process for public comment and input on development projects and the potential of even more damaging suburban sprawl without proper assessment of impact to the existing community or to roads and transit.
It puts environmental regulation in danger at a time when Ontario needs to conserve lands and make smarter decisions, not cheaper/fly-by-night ones. I am also very concerned about the impact of the employment standards - further eroding the rights of the work force for greedy corporate interests. Productivity is influenced by employee satisfaction and security, not by high turnover due to poor working conditions (for example, Honda Canada).
It takes a lot more than "opening Ontario for business" to attract real, meaningful and long lasting employers. It takes protections that make skilled employees want to work here, it takes government support of training initiatives and the cooperation of manufacturing employers to make an investment in people, not just tax-deductions like equipment.
