I am a resident and home owner in Hamilton, Ontario and the proximity to the Greenbelt is one of the reasons I moved to this city. I am deeply upset by proposed Bill 66 because it eradicates protections to the Greenbelt. The Greenbelt is needed to help combat climate change, to provide wildlife habitat, to provide recreational space and to provide arable land for farming. Destroying the Greenbelt will do irreparable damage. You can build a factory, a subdivision, or a big box store in a matter of months but you cannot recreate the Greenbelt once it is gone. As a taxpayer and a citizen, I am begging you to maintain protections for the Greenbelt, the Great Lakes, and Lake Simcoe.
